Grand Tapestry is a genre breaking, cutting-edge blend of traditional Indian music & hip-hop. Featuring Eligh, Alam Khan, and Salar Nader, the trio layers rap lyrics with the 25-stringed, fretless instrument called the sarode and the Indian drum known as the tabla. Son of the late legendary Sarode Maestro Ali
Akbar Khan, Alam Khan is a world renowned musician and the face of a new
generation of Sarode players. He has collaborated and performed with a wide
array of artists including grammy winning Tedeschi Trucks Band, Beats Antique,
Karsh Kale, The San Francisco Symphony, and so many more. Alongside his
classical and contemporary musical career, he is the head teacher of advanced
instrumental classes at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California.”
Eligh, LA native and member of the world-renown hip hop
collective The Living Legends, is a self-described “genre breaking, obsessive
bass fiend.” With 10 solo albums and countless contributions, he brings lyrics
known for their style, content and love for the abstract.
Salar Nader, disciple of tabla master Zakir Hussain and Aga Khan Music initiative artist, is one of the most sought-after young percussionists of his generation. Playing the Indian drum, tabla, he has performed globally since the age of 12. Today, Salar weaves his rhythm into Hip-Hop, EDM, and popular music genres, hoping to inspire new audiences with his universal sound.
